Gedling Housing Allocation Policy

During Spring of this year, Gedling Borough Council consulted on proposed changes about who can join the  Council’s housing register for social tenancies and the priority given to different households.  From this, we received a wide range of responses which we are using to shape the new housing allocation policy.

This initial consultation identified the need to reconsider an aspect of the policy which enables applicants aged over 55 without children or a local connection to be considered only for sheltered housing.  In reality, very few properties become available and this raises false expectation for those people and also impacts on the capacity of housing needs staff to support other customers.

Therefore, the Council is proposing to remove this aspect of the policy.

It should be noted that there will be no change as a result of this for people aged 55+ with a local connection.

For further information and respond to the survey by 19th October, please visit the Gedling Borough Council Have Your Say site at www.gedling.gov.uk/Allocation-Policy/ or email comments to allocationpolicy@gedling.gov.uk
